Frequently Asked Questions About UUGI and the Annual Conference
Q: Who are the members of UUGI?
A: Members may be institutions who are customers of SirsiDynix and have purchased a Unicorn or DRA information management system and who have paid dues for the current fiscal year (July-June). In the case of consortia clients, the dues will be assessed only once per consortium. Members of a consortium will not be required to pay dues.
Q: What are the benefits of joining UUGI?
A: UUGI is an independently governed and financed users group. Membership in UUGI grants voting privileges within the organization. Members receive discounted registration to the annual conference, may access proprietary information on the UUGI website, and are eligible for discounted promotional purchase of SirsiDynix services when they are offered.
Q: How is the conference organized?
A: There is a Program Committee of two people who have UUGI Officer status. The Program Committee solicits proposals for customer presentations at least six months prior to the conference itself. Selection of the conference site is made cooperatively between SirsiDynix and the UUGI Executive Committee.
Q: Who are the presenters?
A: Slightly more than half of the programs are presented by users of the Unicorn or DRA software. The selection of topics and programs is made by the Program Committee. Presenters receive a discount on their conference registration. SirsiDynix also conducts presentations and has representatives on hand at all sessions to answer questions as well as staffing the Ask Sirsi room.
Q: What are Special Interest Groups?
A: They are groups organized to provide a forum for discussing issues and needs specific to library types or geographic regions. Most have a fairly formal organizational structure with elected officers and by-laws. The SIG's representing different library types are responsible for collecting enhancement requests from their member libraries. In addition the SIGS conduct a meeting/program at the annual conference.
Q: What is the Business Meeting and am I invited?
A: The Business Meeting is held during the annual conference, and it is where UUGI business is discussed and voted on by members in good standing. All are encouraged to attend. One representative from each institution may vote. During the business meeting we will be talking about topics such as the enhancement process, dues, upcoming conferences, and by-laws revisions.
